David's client - a husband and wife partnership - started their helicopter business as a 'two-man band' with one helper. Twenty years down the track, they employ over one hundred staff in a complementary portfolio of businesses that includes a helicopter operation with five helicopters, a sky- diving business and a hotel.
From those early days, David has worked with his client as partner to their business, helping to identify and assess opportunities that would help them realise their long-term goals. As the business grew and diversified, David and his team at Strettons supported their client to develop and implement business systems, which would enable the client to effectively and efficiently manage the operation.
Importantly, the client has always consulted David and his team at the earliest stages of any business transaction outside of normal day to day operations. As such, David and his team have been able to provide valuable assessments of industry and business situations resulting in a measured and balanced business decision-making process.
As a partnership is how David and his team prefer to work with clients - and the 'two-heads are better than one' situation is how David's aviation client has viewed their relationship.
These days, David provides strategic and creative thought processes around any business opportunities or arising issues on an 'as-needs' basis. This has involved David in a broad range of activity for his client, recently, for example, he helped them through a process to devise remuneration packages for employees - resulting in a solution that met needs for both the business and staff.
David also has helped his client with fundamental business decisions, such as identification of the most appropriate banking partner for their needs and helping them through negotiation process of purchasing new aircraft.
David has always had a keen interest in aviation and this knowledge, together with his business expertise, has seen him work together with his client to grow their business into the diverse and successful operation it is today.
